작가노트/ Artist Note
자연공간과 그곳에 결부되어있는 자연물을 이용하는 작업으로서 Land Art 혹은 Earth에 가깝다고 볼 수 있다. Earth Works라는 용어는 작품에 쓰이는 재료가 자연물 그 자체(흙,나무,물 등)의 형태를 갖고 대지 위에서 이루어지는 것이기에 대지미술(LandArt)이라고 부르기도 한다. 나의 작업은 자연과 인공의 만남, 즉 대지라는 자연공간에 인공의 물질인 고무를 이용하여 사진 이라는 도구로서 순간적인 조각의 형태에 대한 순간포착이다.
나의 작업 발단은 동양화적 작업에서 인화지라는 화폭에 붓을 대신하여 카메라를 사용하고 흑백으로서 먹을 대신하여 실제적 자연풍경과 배경에 한번의 큰 필체와 같은 느낌의 추상적 형태를 한 오브제를 표현, 그리고 그 속에서 조화와 의미를 찾는 작업이다
먼저 오브제를 밖으로 끌어내 적절한 공간 속에 놓이게 하고, 하루살이 또는 순간적인 설치작업(Installation éhpémère)으로 주변의 환경에 따라 유기적으로 변하는 고무판을 사진으로 담아냈다 내가 그토록 애착을 가지게 되었던 고무판은 우연히 석탄 공장에서 쓰다 버린 것을 주워 작업을 시작하게 되면서 검은 고무의 재질이 갖고 있는 유연함(놓여지는 공간에 따라 형태적 변화를 갖고, 질료 자체로는 주변을 투영하거나 반사하지 않지만 물과 같은 성질의 재료들과 만나면 그 자체의 성질을 버리고 새로운 성질에 동화되는)만으로도 표현상의 큰 매력을 갖는다.
동양화의 수묵화를 연상시키는 검정 고무판은 그 동안의 컬러작업보다 흑백이 갖고 있는 깊이에 더 큰 관심을 기울이게 해 주었다 그것은 내가 자연에 하나의 획을 그을 수 있을듯한 강한 인상을 전해 준 것이다.
Artist Note
Nature space connected and constructed to natural objects, which can also be Land Art and Earth. The term Earth Works can be known as land Art, the materials used are soil, tree water and so on. My practice is based on naturally and artificially. The natural land, Earth, will be made by artificial rubber and photographed instantly.
The beginning of my oriental practice will be recorded on paper by using the camera. Instead of using Indian ink and black and white colors, I will use real natural backgrounds. It will be used by hand writing, which will have an abstract form and express objects, from the interior I will find the harmony and meaning behind this experience.
The object will be pulled out and placed in the appropriate space. Installation éphémère will be organically changed through rubber board, which I will photograph. I have a special attachment to rubber boards because I coincidentally picked up rubber boards from a factory. Black rubber materials have flexibility. It has morphological change. If it meets other materials, like water it will remove its original property and absorb the material. This is why I am attracted to this particular material.
Oriental paintings in ink and wash painting will be reminded by the black rubber boards. Compared to previous colour works, the black and white works have a more in depth meaning and attraction. I was stoked by hoe this practice has made s strong impression to myself and nature.
